Venice is probably best known as the Floating, or in recent history, the Sinking City, due to it being built on water! Carnival starts roughly two weeks before Ash Wednesday and ends on Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras). Carnival is one of the main tourist attractions in Venice. Most people and tourists dress up for Carnival, adding to the rich and wonderful experience. Dressing up isn't required, but it adds something to the experience of being in Venice during Carnival, making it a truly unique experience. After all, on Carnival, you can be someone else!
